Peter Jeffs

Associate

With a passion for community working and Public Health, Peter has 30 years of local government experience in various parts of the country.  More than half of this was as a senior manager for a wide range of ‘customer-facing’ services, several of which have won national recognition for excellence.

He has managed regulatory services, social housing, sports and leisure services (including a gallery and a theatre), development control, streetscene services, waste management, countryside services, and arts development.  As such he can bring a wealth of technical and practical skills whether in managing people, finances, projects, facilities, contracts, or political involvement.  As Corporate Director (Communities) for a Devon Council Peter led community development, community planning, and has given practical support to many community organisations, also using his experience of being a Trustee to two charitable bodies.   His interest is especially in ensuring effective, sustainable and creative strategic management of organisations, and he has managed the establishment of a large Trust as well as organising other, smaller, asset transfers.  Since leaving local government he has been commissioned to carry out reviews of strategic approach for Town Council and charitable organisations, as well as talks, project and asset advice under his own organisation, Community Leadership (South West).

From an early career in nursing and environmental health, Peter has always had an interest in public health.  Peter continues to give public health advice at a national level.  When improving people’s wellbeing, his belief is that recognising and engaging local community skills and assets usually gives the best result.
